Institute Coordinator – VALUE Institute
Visiting Research Associate

In the fall of 2017, the Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research (CPR), in partnership with the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), launched the VALUE Institute. CPR seeks a visiting research associate to be the institute coordinator to manage the day-to-day operations of the VALUE Institute. The Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education (VALUE) rubrics, created by AAC&U, provide postsecondary education providers with a resource for documenting, reporting, and using learning outcomes evidence to improve student success. The VALUE Institute provides external scoring of student work by expert raters trained in using the VALUE rubrics to postsecondary education providers of all types The VALUE Institute, in tandem with CPR’s National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), is the country’s most comprehensive resource for direct and indirect evidence of student learning in postsecondary education and is supported through institution participation fees and funding from the Lumina Foundation. Participating providers use their VALUE Institute results to benchmark student learning against established criteria and to identify areas for improvement. Job Duties:
The Institute Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day project activities and reports to the VALUE Institute Director. Major responsibilities include coordinating the collection, processing, and management of student artifacts, the corresponding rubric scores, and other associated data; analyzing data and reporting results to participating education providers and other audiences; and managing project staff. This is done in collaboration with the AAC&U VALUE team as well as staff and project associate(s) within CPR. The Institute Coordinator contributes directly to the production of institutional and national reports through analysis and writing, assists with calibration/norming training workshops and consultations, and is responsible for communications with participating education providers. The Institute Coordinator position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year depending on funding and performance.

A master’s degree is required in higher education, educational research, social sciences, business administration, marketing, or a related field. In addition, work experience in higher education or a related area is highly desirable. Preferred skills and abilities include knowledge of higher education policies, strong analytical, writing, interpersonal and presentation skills, survey and/or research design experience, and basic statistics. A demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative research environment is essential. Proficiency in SPSS, Excel, MS Word, Power Point, and Publisher are highly desirable.
